Heads up -- this is making the rounds on various sites. I found this on Blue's News, so get ready for some traffic.

looks like someone took the bioshock box art
http://www.2kgames.com/cultofrapture/features/boxart/360fob.jpg
and followed these instructions:
http://photojojo.com/content/diy/etch-a-sketch-picture-frame/

that could explain it......

@Chris

Thats not true, the instructions can never produce the artistic curved strokes this guy has done. Besides, he is a professional at it, if u look at his other work. It should not be hard to believe than becoming skeptic.

@Etch-A-Sketchist

Dude awesome!!!!

Freakin cool. I wish I had that much spare time!

Thats quite insanely awesome, nice work!
Must be a real heartbreak if you drop it half way through >.<

Matt said...

Good grief, if you honestly think this isn't Photoshopped, you need your head examined. It is technically impossible to actually produce that image on an Etch-O-Sketch.

Brian said...

Wow, are you seriously that retarded?

Lee said...

Matt, kindly take your childish attitude back to ebaumsworld, where you belong.

Your Alexa rank is 304730.Imagine what would be happening to your alexa rank today.I see it had a spike in july,so its the second time you have been dugg.
interesting video

Okay, since I do in fact have lots of time on my hands, I followed the instructions for photoshopping the image into etch-a-sketch style using the picture linked to in Chris' post.

Try it yourself... it's not photoshopped. And congrats to Mr. Etch-a-Sketch artist for not just creating these images, but also influencing us to argue about it.

Wysen said...

Wow, nice work man. How long do these creations usually take to do?

WoCo said...

Yeah, I have been checking up on this site for awhile, and I am truly amazed ...

Jonathan said...

Very nice. I can't believe you can do that with an Etch-A-Sketch!

Shai said...

This is just amazing!

Daniel said...

Well, it hasn't been posted yet, so ...

Its a photoshop, I can tell by the pixels! ... seriously people, get a fucking life. :)

Just because someone is better than you at something does not make it fake.

WOW! I would really like to say something more profound, but... WOW!

That's awesome. I just had to return that game to Blockbuster right in the middle of playing it. I'm trying to decide between buying Bioshock or Gears of War. Finally bought an Xbox a few days ago.

Would you kindly blow my mind.

I'd like to see a high resolution image of one of these pictures. The res on these images is very low. What do you say Etch-A-Sketchist, are you willing to subject your artistry to real scrutiny or are you just another Milli Vanilli?

Etchasketchist said...

Ah, Digg days! Gotta love it. So yeah, not photoshopped. Duh. Tom, if you click the link to flickr there are larger resolution images. I encourage everyone to check them out, the stylus-strokes come out much nicer on the big versions. I like this size for the blog because it loads faster. Also, if anyone wants to buy me a first class ticket and pay me one thousand dollars I'd be more than happy to come to your house and do your portrait. That's probably the only way your ever going to really believe it, so c'mon, go for it. Now, if anybody actually has any questions on how I do this, I'm more than happy to answer them.

@Tom

I've personally watched the Etch-A-Sketchist create one of the masterpieces. No photoshop involved. He's the real deal.

Dear Haters and Naysayers,
I witness the groovy artistic genius that is the Etch-A-Sketchist every day. He does it on command, before your very eyes. Manually, without complaint and flawlessly. Every time.
Have you seen the unicorns playing poker? Helloooo

BeBop said...

Whoa, that is just amazing... Definitely one of the better etch a scetch works I've seen :)

The proportions could have been a wee bit more precise, but considering the medium, I'm not one to complain... Also, I can barely make a straight line on those things, nevermind actually drawing someting ^^

Keep it up man :)

Completely hawesome.

Fantastic work, that must have taken forever.

I am surprised anyone is doubting the authenticity of this. Many years ago there was a young (college age) kid on Letterman (or was it Leno) who actually worked for the Etch-A-Sketch corporation doing this stuff. His stuff was 10x better than what's shown here. Not to say Etch-A-Sketchist isn't talented. If you think this is photoshoppped ...

dude i got a boner when i saw this picture

Etcha said...

been seeing more and more of your work.... been busy, eh? For anyone interested in seeing a 'different' style of Etch A Sketch art, take a look at some of my work at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/etcha/
In the future, my main site will be Etcha.net.
I should have about 2 dozen full size finished pieces by the years end.

that guy is the real deal.

only way that's been achieved is to manipulating the screen without using the the dials, I call BS but it's a good fake.
